The Park Theatre Presents
A FREE Movie Classic showing from The Park Theatre: Charlie Chaplin’s The Gold Rush

Georgia Hale and Charlie Chaplin
“Saturdays at the Cinema” offers another FREE film classic on Saturday, October 4th at 7:00 P.M. in the Jaffrey Woman’s Club, 33 Main Street, Jaffrey. This film, sponsored by Elsa M. Lindenfeld, is one of a series of three movies presented by The Park Theatre this Fall.
According to Mike King, Film Historian for The Park Theatre, the 1942 reissue of The Gold Rush, was originally a silent film first produced in 1920. Chaplin, however, felt it could be made better and, in a rare move in the film world, he remade the movie to include sound effects, an original music score, and occasional narration by himself.
In the movie, Chaplin plays the Lone Prospector who journeys to the Klondike in 1898 to make his fortune – with only a pair of worn shoes and a lightweight shawl as unlikely protection from the bitter cold. Adrift in the frenzy of the gold rush, Charlie Chaplin attempts to survive the climate and win the affections of a dance hall girl, played by Georgia Hale.
