A live performance of the best of Broadway is
The Park Theatre's 2008 Second Season Opener.
Produced and Directed by Maria Belva and Ned Dahl, "IT'S SHOWTIME!" will be an evening of favorite broadway tunes sung by some of the region's top vocalists. This musical revue will be held at 8 pm on Saturday, April 19th at St. Patrick School on Main Street in Jaffrey. Proceeds from the performance will be shared with the school's musical and academic programs. A Dessert Reception with an opportunity to meet the performers will be held following the show and is included in the ticket price.
Belva, well known for her work as co-founder and Director of the Peterborough Children's Choir and long-time member of the Peterborough Chamber Choir, is the Music Director of the Peterborough Unitarian Church, a private voice teacher, and an accomplished soprano soloist who has performed opera and oratorio throughout the Monadnock region. Dahl has sung everywhere from Biloxi to Moscow. He sang for years with the BSO's Tanglewood Festival Chorus, including several appearances as soloist with the BSO, and as a soloist in numerous regional choruses. Dahl was a member and soloist with the Russian Chamber Chorus. He is a founder and incorporator of the Raylynmor Opera Company and Habitat for Humanity.
Ms. Belva and Mr. Dahl, as well as all the musicians volunteering their time and talent, have always supported worthwhile projects through the arts.
Tickets to IT'S SHOWTIME!" are $25 and available at the Jaffrey Chamber of Commerce, Steele's Stationary and Toadstool Bookshop in Peterborough.
The Park Theatre 2008 Season is undertaken in collaboration with many of the region's performing artists who are Performing Partners of the theatre. These artistic groups are Monadnock Music, Branch River Theatre, Monadnock Chorus, Actors' Circle Theatre, Peterborough Children's Choir, Peterborough Chamber Choir, Raylynmor Opera, Monadnock Performing Arts Academy, Project Shakespeare, and Small Pond Productions.
Partner productions coming up in April include The Branch River Theatre's production of "The Foreigner" on April 17, 18 and 19 at the Marlborough Meeting House in Marlborough and The Monadnock Chorus' Spring Concert on April 26 and April 27 at the Peterborough Town House in Peterborough.
The Park Theatre's free Summer Movie Nights will begin with "Some Like It Hot" on Thursday, July 10 on the lawn of the Jaffrey Civic Center at 8:30 pm. The free summer movies throughout July will be held at the Jaffrey Civic Center that generously hosts The Park Theatre summer movie series. The center's annual "Night of 1,000 Cupcakes" will be held on Thursday, July 17 and will be followed by The Park Theatre's showing of "Girl Crazy" starring Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney. One of the best loved Tarzan movies and a round-up of Bugs Bunny cartoons will wrap of the season.
