COYOTE VS. ACME (2026) brings one of the funniest running jokes in animation history to the big screen: after decades of rockets exploding, anvils falling and ingenious contraptions spectacularly backfiring, Wile E. Coyote finally decides he’s had enough — and sues the Acme Corporation. He hires down-on-his-luck accident lawyer Kevin Avery (Will Forte) to take on the corporate giant and its slick attorney Buddy Crane (John Cena). Directed by Dave Green and written by Samy Burch, the film combines live action with classic Looney Tunes animation, with Lana Condor, Tone Bell, Martha Kelly and Luis Guzmán joining Forte and Cena and appearances by Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Foghorn Leghorn, Tweety, Porky Pig and other Looney Tunes favorites. The result is part courtroom comedy, part corporate satire and part wonderfully elaborate celebration of the indestructible Wile E. Coyote. Rated PG; runtime: 1 hour 41 minutes.
And what a comeback it has been. After Warner Bros. controversially shelved the completed movie in 2023, Coyote vs. Acme was rescued by Ketchup Entertainment and is finally reaching American theaters on August 28, 2026. Critics have greeted it enthusiastically: as of August 19, it holds an exceptional 95% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 44 reviews. (Rotten Tomatoes) Time Out calls the movie “an absolute blast,” while The Daily Beast praises it as a “clever and madcap underdog saga.” Awards Radar describes it as “supremely entertaining,” and one critic goes so far as to call it arguably “the best Looney Tunes film ever made.” (Rotten Tomatoes) After nearly becoming one of Hollywood’s most notorious unreleased movies, Coyote vs. Acme has instead become the ultimate Wile E. Coyote story: knocked down, written off — and somehow getting back up again. (apnews.com)
