Ballet Zurich’s THE NUTCRACKER & THE MOUSE KING – Stage2Screen – Sun Dec 6, 1:45pm

Ticket $18 – Children 12 and under: $10

Enter a world of Christmas magic, enchanting music, and extraordinary imagination when The Park Theatre’s ArtsCinema Stage2Screen series presents Ballet Zürich’s The Nutcracker and the Mouse King on Sunday, December 6, at 1:45 p.m. Filmed at the Zürich Opera House in 2018, choreographer Christian Spuck’s inventive production returns to E.T.A. Hoffmann’s original fairy tale, following young Marie into a fantastical adventure involving a wooden Nutcracker, a fearsome Mouse King, and an enchanted prince. Drosselmeier’s mysterious workshop becomes an old revue theatre where toys and fairy-tale characters spring to life, while the often-omitted story of Princess Pirlipat adds humor, surprises, and a darker touch of magic to this holiday favorite. Tchaikovsky’s beloved score provides the musical heart of this imaginative journey.

The filmed cast features Michelle Willems as Marie, William Moore as the Nutcracker/Prince, Dominik Slavkovský as Drosselmeier, Giulia Tonelli as Princess Pirlipat, Cohen Aitchison-Dugas as the Mouse King, and Mélissa Ligurgo as the Mouse Queen, joined by Ballet Zürich and its Junior Ballet, with Philharmonia Zürich conducted by Paul Connelly. Reviewing the stage production, Sarah Batschelet of Bachtrack praised its “consistently fresh and dynamic” ballet and called the experience “a feast for eyes and ears.” With colorful costumes, theatrical spectacle, and expressive dancing captured for the screen, this is a distinctive way to celebrate the season. Running time: approximately 110 minutes. Tickets: $18; children 12 and under: $10.
